Munich was a beautiful city and one of my favorites that we visited. There were so many old buildings and architecture to admire. We stayed in a hotel that was very close to the city center, Marienplatz. There, we were able to walk around and tour many streets that had restaurants, stores, and cute little shops. In the center of the town was this magnificent neo-gothic building called the Rathausturm-Glockenspiel. This was my favorite building in Germany. It made music every few hours and a crowd would gather in front to watch the performance.
My group and I decided to grab lunch at the Beer Garden and go visit the Chinese Turrum. We walked from the hotel to the Beer Garden. On the walk we got to see the city life of Munich. As we walked on the sidewalk, there were surprisingly a lot of bikers in the bike lane next to us and it was highly trafficked. We learned rather quick that the bikers do not intend to move around us or slow down so we had to steer clear of them.
We stopped and took pictures along the way to the Beer Garten. We eventually made our way to a forested area with gravel trails. We followed it until the Chinese Turrum came into view. I remember seeing it online and it was really neat to see in person. It was tall, wooden structure. I found it particularly interesting to see there was Chinese architectural influence in Germany. Around it was a bunch of green benches and tables for people to sit at and relax. A little beyond that, there were food stands in the back serving traditional German foods and drinks. There were so many options I didn’t know what to pick, everything looked so good!
We got our food and sat down to eat and mingle with each other. It was one of our first days together so it was super fun getting to know everyone, especially over a German beer. After that we made our way to the Isar river and sat by the water to relax after all of our walking. There were a bunch of locals doing the same thing, listening to music, having picnics, and just hanging out drinking beer. It was nice to see and be part of all the German leisure activities.
