When I think of world-class cuisine, Paris and London are two cities that immediately come to mind. London embraces a vibrant mix of international flavors, making it a true melting pot for food lovers. On the other hand, Paris, with its rich culinary history, brings a sense of tradition and elegance to every meal. Whether you’re looking for a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris or a cozy bistro, the city offers a wide variety of authentic and delicious cuisines guaranteed to make you want even more. So, let’s explore some of my favorite dining spots in each city that are guaranteed to please any palate!
London: A Fusion of Global Flavors
- Borough Market
As one of the most popular spots in London, this market offers a wide variety of fantastic food from around the world. One must-try stand is The Black Pig, renowned for its signature ciabatta sandwiches. I was impressed by the crowd-favorite honey truffle and parmesan pork ciabatta sandwich. You can watch the chefs prepare your sandwich right in front of you, and the wait is definitely worth it.
2. Circolo Poplare
This restaurant is a hidden gem and one of the most visually stunning places in all of London. It transports you directly to sunny Sicily, Italy, decorated inside with over 20,000 bottles and lush greenery. The atmosphere is irreplaceable, and you can enjoy authentic Italian meals, such as carbonara and wood-fired Margherita pizzas, with your friends.
3. Flat Iron Steak Restaurant
If you love steak like me, Flat Iron is the perfect restaurant pick for you. This restaurant is known for offering delicious and affordable high-quality steak. Their most popular dish is the flat iron steak, served alongside tasty sides for a delightful dining experience. I also highly recommend trying the daily steak cut specials as well. Don’t forget to use the tiny meat cleaver they give you to claim a free gelato ice cream on your way out!
Paris: A Feast for the Senses
- La Gueule Enfarinee
This was easily my favorite restaurant experience of the entire trip. It was recommended by my classmate, Blaire Lefler, and this meal truly captures the essence of French cuisine. You must try the croque monsieur, which is essentially an inside-out grilled cheese, as your main course. For dessert, indulge in the banoffee—a delicious combination of banana pudding and caramel sauce that will leave you wanting more. We literally fought over the last bite! This unforgettable meal has set the highest standard for all my future French dining experiences at any restaurant in Paris.
2. Ladurée Paris
This is a great recommendation for the ladies looking for a beautiful brunch spot with high-end pastries and world-famous macarons. The stunning interior is perfect for photos, and the food is delicious. One of the best items on the menu is the French toast topped with caramel macarons, vanilla bean ice cream, and caramel drizzle. It was a wonderful experience and a great way to bond with girlfriends. I would surely suggest it to anyone looking for an excellent restaurant in Paris.
3. Bouillon Republique
We were treated to the Bouillon Republique restaurant for our GLO farewell dinner. If you are going to visit this restaurant in Paris on your own, it is a great choice for a more affordable yet authentic option, as I understand prices can quickly increase. This restaurant allows you to step out of your comfort zone and try some French delicacies, including foie gras and escargot. Also, make sure to try the French onion soup as an appetizer and the lamb as your main course meal. You won’t regret visiting this restaurant in Paris!
These restaurants only scratch the surface of the diverse and delicious food options in both London and Paris. I was grateful this travel opportunity allowed me to fully immerse myself in the local culture and savor the flavors of the authentic food plates. I hope you’ll consider trying one or more of these restaurant locations during your trip. However, make sure to explore more dining options as well and share your favorite restaurants and meals. I can’t wait to hear all about your experiences!
