The #1 piece of clothing you need to bring to study abroad in Europe (especially in May) is a rain jacket. The one thing you can depend on while being abroad is facing the crazy weather. One day it will be cold and rainy, and then the next will be sunny and warm. Being from the Seattle area, I don’t believe in using an umbrella so my North Face rain jacket is my best friend. Bring something that’s lightweight and will dry fast! On top of a raincoat bring really comfortable shoes that can dry quickly overnight.
LIFESAVING TIP: Stuff Newspapers in soaked tennis shoes overnight and your shoes will be dry by morning! (I had to fully rinse a pair of Nikes in a sink and by using this trick my shoes were perfectly dry 6 hours later!)
Yes, your business clothes are going to be a necessity, but you need to keep them dry! Nice Clothes, raincoat, good shoes, a beanie, and sunglasses, are some of the few things you should make sure are in your luggage!
Here’s what our weather looked like on our trip
Munich: Rain
Innsbruck: Sun and Rain
Verona/Venice: SUN!
Geneva: Partly Cloudy
France: Rain and Rain
London: Fair Weather
I hope you enjoy your trip with IBS and that you read all these blogs to help plan for a smooth trip!
