“Way Out”

This morning, we had a presentation on the European Union from a funny character.  He had some very interesting yet radical views about The Union and it was great to hear a different perspective from someone who has lived and worked his whole life in many countries throughout Europe. Afterwards, we took The Tube to The British Museum and had a scavenger hunt, which was a great time even though my group came in third…  The volume of artifacts in the museum from all around the world is incredible.  It is the 2nd most visited museum in the world and the 1st most visited in Europe!  After the museum, we took The Tube to King’s Cross Station to get pictures with the famous Harry Potter Platform 9 3/4!  One of the things I find most interesting about The Tube (and many other places around London) is that instead of having “Exit” signs, they say “Way Out.”  It’s one of my favorite things about this city, because it captures how differently we speak even though we speak the same language.

Once we left King’s Cross, we took a long ride up to the world famous Abbey Road.  It was dark by the time we got there, but it was still phenomenal.  In this little residential town, it is amazing to me that cars will just stop in the middle of the road (with no stop light in sight) to allow tourists to cross and get a picture.  Another example of how different it is than the U.S.  Honestly, could you imagine people actually stopping for something like that!?
